Addiction medicine specialists are responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, intervention and treatment of substance use and addiction. They also provide medical care for family members affected by others' substance addition. They are involved in the health care team to help coordinate and consult other medical physicals and services when needed. They are initially board certified in another medical specialty because between certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
